Badmaal Project participates in the International Day for Women in Maritime

Badmaal Project Coordinator Mr. Abdullahi Abdi Addow, together with sector specialists—including Ms. Marian Abdulle, Social Safeguards Specialist—joined the International Day for Women in Maritime commemoration in Mogadishu.

Under the theme “An Ocean of Opportunities for Women,” the team celebrated the resilience and vital contributions of Somali women in the fisheries and maritime sectors, alongside H.E. Ahmed Hassan, Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy; H.E. Fartun Abdukadir, Deputy Minister of Ports and Marine Transport; UN officials; and other dignitaries.

The event highlighted women’s participation in the maritime workforce—currently around 1.2%, according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO)—and the Ministry’s pledge to address these gaps through education initiatives and job creation for Somali women in maritime.

The Somali Sustainable Fisheries Development Project – Badmaal is proud to support and empower Somali women leading change in the fisheries sector.
